February 22 is a red-letter day for margarita lovers. As the world celebrates International Margarita Day, Patrón Tequila, the world’s number one ultra-premium tequila, is leading celebrations to honor the iconic cocktail in the Philippines.

It is believed that this well-loved cocktail was first made at Tail o’ the Cock Restaurant in Beverly Hills, Los Angeles in 1939, by bartender John Durlesser. He named the cocktail after his girlfriend, Daisy, which means Margarita in Spanish. It was only in 1953, however, that the world first heard about it when Esquire Magazine first featured a refreshing new cocktail made with tequila, lime juice, triple sec, and salt rim on a stemmed glass.

The margarita is one of the best-selling cocktails globally, loved and consumed by millions including Filipinos who enjoy a good drink. Today, the Margarita takes on many forms, variations and flavors that would suit various tastes and preferences.

Whilst Patrón definitely did not invent the Margarita, we believe that we have perfected it! So why not try shaking up one, or all of the below #SimplyPerfect Margarita recipes this International Margarita Day; from the Classic, timeless Margarita to a contemporary twist, the road to margarita perfection always begins with Patrón.
